Quotix

AI quotes for painting contractors

Quotix was built for Christian, a painting contractor in New Zealand, to speed up the part of quoting that takes the longest: writing up what the job actually covers. Contractors build a quote room by room, and Quotix turns the finished line items into a client-ready description automatically.

The challenge

Painting contractors price jobs room by room, but still had to write a plain-English scope-of-work summary for every quote by hand, repeating the same kind of writing for every job while trying to keep tone consistent and avoid revealing pricing detail. Quotix generates that summary straight from the quote's own line items, so the contractor reviews and sends instead of drafting from scratch.

Who uses it

Painters/contractors
Build room-by-room quotes with surfaces, paint, and coats, and send the generated description to clients.
Company admins
Manage painters, rooms, gear, and subscription plans for their painting company.
Clients
Receive the quote, review the generated job description, and accept, reject, or request a revision.
Platform admins
Oversee companies, painters, users, quotations, plans, and subscriptions across the platform.

What we built

We built Android and iOS apps plus a web admin on a shared PHP API. Contractors add rooms and surfaces, pick paint, coat count, and condition, and the app totals paint quantity, time, and cost per room. Claude (Anthropic) turns the finished line items into a short, plain-English job description for the client quote, following strict rules on tone and no pricing disclosure.

  • Room/surface estimator

Add rooms and surfaces, choose paint, coat count, and surface condition; the app totals paint quantity, time, and cost.

  • AI job description

Claude turns the finished quote line items into a two-sentence, plain-English scope summary for the client.

  • Quote lifecycle

Clients can accept, reject, or request a revision on a quote, each tracked through the API.

  • Company & painter management

Admins manage painters, companies, and users, with approval and status controls.

  • Rooms & gear catalog

Admins maintain a reusable catalog of standard rooms and gear/equipment used in estimates.

  • Plans & subscriptions

Admin-managed subscription plans, with a renewal history recorded per company.

  • PDF generation

Admins generate quotation and work-sheet PDFs directly from quote data.

  • Referral tracking

The admin panel tracks referrals that brought companies onto the platform.

How it works

  1. Painter adds a room and its surfaces to a new quote.
  2. Painter picks paint, coat count, and surface condition per surface.
  3. The app totals paint quantity, labor time, and cost for the room.
  4. On finishing the quote, the line items are sent to Claude, which writes a two-sentence client-facing description.
  5. The client receives the quote and the generated description, and accepts, rejects, or requests a revision.
  6. Admins can generate a quotation or work-sheet PDF from the same data.

Where the AI fits

Once a contractor finishes a quote, Quotix sends the room, surface, paint, and coat-count line items to Claude, which is instructed to write exactly two sentences: one naming the scope (surfaces and rooms covered) and one stating the coat count, with no pricing, GST, litres, hours, or internal codes mentioned. If the Claude call fails or times out, Quotix falls back to a template-based description built from the same line items, so the contractor always gets a usable summary.

  • Anthropic Claude via the Messages API
  • Strict system prompt: exactly 2 sentences, plain text, no pricing disclosure
  • Deterministic template fallback if the AI call fails

How it’s built

Android, iOS, and two admin panels (company-level and platform-level) share one PHP API, so quote math, Claude calls, and PDF generation live in one place. The estimator computes paint quantity, time, and cost per surface before anything reaches the AI step, so the AI only ever writes the description, it never touches pricing. Subscription plans and renewal history are tracked per company, and admins can export quotation and work-sheet PDFs on demand.

Questions about Quotix

What does Quotix do?

Quotix is a quoting app that Venzpire built for Christian, a painting contractor in New Zealand. Contractors build room-by-room estimates from surfaces, paint, and coat counts, and Quotix uses Claude to write the client-facing scope-of-work description automatically from the quote's own line items.

Which platforms does Quotix run on?

Quotix has native Android and iOS apps for contractors, plus a company-level PHP admin panel and a separate platform-level admin panel, all backed by one shared PHP API that Venzpire built.

How does Quotix use AI?

Quotix sends a finished quote's line items to Claude (Anthropic), which writes a two-sentence, plain-English job description under strict rules on tone and no pricing disclosure. If the AI call fails, Quotix falls back to a template-based description built from the same data, so a description is always produced.
