SM Steels
Ordering app for a steel trading business
SM Steels replaces phone-in orders with a mobile app. Customers browse the catalog and place sales orders, brokers manage their accounts, and admins approve everything from a dashboard.

The challenge
A steel trading business took orders over the phone, which meant no easy way for customers to browse the current catalog, check prices, or track an order's status, and no record brokers or admins could search later. The trader needed a mobile app that gave customers and brokers a direct ordering channel while keeping admin control over pricing, categories, and approvals.
Who uses it
- Customers
- Browse product categories, view sales order details, and check out with shipping and billing addresses.
- Brokers
- Place and track orders on behalf of their own customer relationships after admin approval.
- Admins
- Approve new customer and broker accounts, manage products and category masters, and approve sales orders.
What we built
We built native Android and iOS apps with three logins: customer, broker, and admin. Customers browse categories, view product and sales order details, and check out with shipping and billing addresses. Admins approve new customer and broker accounts, manage products and category masters, and approve sales orders from a dashboard.
Three role-based logins
Separate customer, broker, and admin sign-in flows, each with its own screens and permissions.
Product catalog
Browse steel products by category, with detail screens for specs and pricing.
Sales order checkout
Customers place orders and enter separate shipping and billing addresses.
Account approval queue
Admins review and approve new customer and broker sign-ups before they can order.
Order approval dashboard
Admins see incoming sales orders and approve them from one screen.
Category and product masters
Admins manage the product catalog and category structure that customers browse.
Native Android and iOS
Built natively in Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS rather than a single cross-platform codebase.
How it works
- Customer or broker registers and waits for admin approval.
- Once approved, they log in and browse products by category.
- They open a product, review details, and add it to a sales order.
- At checkout they enter shipping and billing addresses and submit the order.
- Admin reviews the order on the dashboard and approves it.
- Customer and broker can check the order's approved status.

Android app
Kotlin
Native Android app for customers, brokers, and admins to browse, order, and approve.
iOS app
Swift
Native iOS app mirroring the Android app's customer, broker, and admin flows.
How it’s built
Both apps were built natively rather than with a shared cross-platform framework, with Kotlin on Android and Swift on iOS. The three-role model (customer, broker, admin) runs through registration, catalog, and ordering, with admins gating account access and order approval rather than letting orders flow through automatically. Firebase backs push notifications and app services, and category and product data is managed centrally so both native apps stay in sync.
