Lala Masala

Lala Masala is a complete e-commerce platform for a spice brand: a storefront with cart and checkout, a Manager and Super Admin panel for catalog and orders, and a REST API built so a future mobile app can reuse it unchanged. It handles browsing, payments and order fulfillment in one PHP application.

The challenge

The client needed one web platform to sell spices online, take payments and manage orders and stock, without a separate mobile app yet. That meant building a storefront, an admin side for day-to-day catalog and order work, and payment and messaging integrations that actually suit an Indian spice retailer, while keeping the door open for a mobile app later without rebuilding the backend.

Who uses it

Customer
Browses products, applies coupons, signs in with OTP, checks out with Razorpay and leaves product reviews.
Manager
Manages catalog, inventory and incoming orders day to day through the Manager admin panel.
Super admin
Has full control over catalog, staff access, orders and store-wide settings.

What we built

Built as a framework-free PHP 8.1 application: a Tailwind storefront with cart, coupons, reviews and OTP sign-in; a Manager and Super Admin panel for catalog, inventory and orders; and a REST API designed so a future Flutter app can reuse it unchanged. Integrations cover Razorpay payments, Fast2SMS OTP and WhatsApp messaging, and PDF invoices via Dompdf, with India Post pincode-based shipping slabs.

  • Storefront with cart and coupons

Tailwind-based storefront where customers browse products, apply coupon codes and manage their cart.

  • OTP sign-in

Customers sign in with a one-time password sent via Fast2SMS, no separate password to manage.

  • Razorpay checkout

Payments are collected through Razorpay at checkout, tied to each order record.

  • Product reviews

Customers can leave reviews on products they've bought, visible on the storefront.

  • Pincode-based shipping slabs

Shipping cost is calculated from India Post pincode data, split into cost slabs by delivery zone.

  • PDF invoices

Each order generates a PDF invoice through Dompdf for the customer and the store's records.

  • WhatsApp order messaging

Order and OTP updates can be sent over WhatsApp alongside SMS.

  • Manager and Super Admin panels

Two separate admin roles for day-to-day catalog and order management versus full store control.

How it works

  1. Customer browses the storefront and adds spice products to their cart.
  2. They sign in with an OTP sent via Fast2SMS, or continue as a returning customer.
  3. They apply a coupon if they have one, and the pincode-based shipping cost is calculated at checkout.
  4. Payment is collected through Razorpay, and a PDF invoice is generated for the order.
  5. The order appears in the Manager admin panel for fulfillment, and order updates go out over SMS or WhatsApp.
  6. The customer can leave a review once the order is complete.

Every part of the product

  • Customer storefront

    PHP + Tailwind

The public-facing site where customers browse, cart and check out.

  • Manager admin panel

    PHP

Day-to-day catalog, inventory and order management for store staff.

  • Super admin panel

    PHP

Full control over catalog, orders and store-wide configuration.

  • REST API

    PHP

The same backend endpoints the storefront uses, designed so a future Flutter app can reuse them unchanged.

How it’s built

Lala Masala is built as a framework-free PHP 8.1 application rather than on top of a large framework, keeping the stack lean for a single-brand store. The storefront, Manager panel, Super Admin panel and a REST API all sit on the same codebase and database, and the API layer was deliberately designed so a future Flutter mobile app could reuse the exact same endpoints instead of a separate backend being built later. Integrations cover Razorpay for payments, Fast2SMS for OTP login, WhatsApp for order messaging, Dompdf for invoice PDFs, and India Post pincode data for shipping cost slabs.
