BLE beacon personal safety and SOS alerts

RESQ pairs a small Bluetooth beacon with an Android app so a person in India can raise an alert fast, without fumbling for a phone screen. We built the app, the beacon pairing and SOS flow, and the admin and employee panels behind it.

The challenge

People in vulnerable situations need a fast, discreet way to raise an alert and reach help, faster than unlocking a phone, opening an app, and dialing a number. RESQ answers that with a physical BLE beacon paired to an Android app: a single press on the beacon triggers a location-tagged SOS to a person's emergency contacts, while an admin side keeps beacons assigned to the right people and keeps a record of every alert.

What we built

We built an Android app that pairs with a BLE beacon, shows nearby SOS contacts, and sends a location-tagged SOS alert when triggered. An admin panel assigns beacons to users and employees, tracks signup and alert activity on dashboard charts, and keeps an action log. A companion web panel covers employee and beacon management.

    Signup and alert activity are tracked on dashboard charts for admins.

    An audit log keeps a record of admin and system actions for review.

    A companion panel lets employees manage beacon and user records.

How it works

  1. User pairs their BLE beacon with the Android app over Bluetooth.
  2. User sets up their emergency contacts in the app.
  3. In an emergency, the user presses the beacon or the in-app SOS button.
  4. The app sends a location-tagged SOS alert to the configured contacts.
  5. Admins see the alert and related activity logged on the dashboard and action log.

How it’s built

The BLE beacon pairing and SOS trigger run through a background service on Android, so an alert can fire from the beacon itself without the user having to open the app first. Beacon assignment is kept separate from the SOS trigger logic: admins map beacons to users and employees ahead of time, so when an alert comes in the system already knows who it belongs to and who to notify. Admin and employee responsibilities are split into two web panels, with dashboard charts and an action log giving admins visibility into signup and alert activity.
